A Texas couple found their Chihuahua hiding in their checked luggage at the Lubbock Airport before a flight to Las Vegas, according to the article.
Kristi and Jared Owens were checking in when they were told one of their bags was 6 pounds overweight. To redistribute some weight, they opened the suitcase. Kristi said a face appeared, and their Chihuahua, Icky, jumped out.
Kristi said she closed the suitcase while Icky was out of sight and did not know the dog was inside. Icky made no sound during the ride to the airport. The couple said Icky likes to burrow in laundry, blankets and closets. Kristi said she had left the open suitcase with clothes in it unattended for a few hours while packing, and believes Icky got in during that time.
Jared Owens said the overweight alert may have prevented a longer stay in the suitcase. The article says Icky was unharmed.
An airport employee named Cathy offered to watch Icky while the couple went to their gate. The Owenses arranged for a friend to pick up the dog and take her home. Jared Owens thanked Southwest Airlines and Cathy for their customer service in a Facebook post. The article says the couple has since returned from their trip.
