Veterinarian Eileen Fatcheric, DVM, discusses essential dog vaccines in a video interview with Whole Dog Journal executive editor Kate O'Connor. The conversation covers core vaccines that every dog needs and addresses a recent addition to standard vaccination protocols.
Fatcheric explains the reasoning behind individual shots on typical vaccine schedules, helping dog owners understand which vaccines their pets require rather than simply following their veterinarian's recommendation without question. The interview aims to equip owners with knowledge to have informed conversations with their vets about vaccination decisions.
The video identifies which vaccines constitute the core vaccines recommended for all dogs. A recent addition to vaccine recommendations is also discussed, though specific vaccine names and the nature of this newer recommendation are not detailed in the available excerpt.
Understanding vaccine necessity empowers dog owners to make educated decisions about their pets' health care. The segment suggests that blindly following a vaccine schedule without knowing the rationale behind each shot limits an owner's ability to ask informed questions or discuss alternatives with their veterinarian.
