A bird watcher named Ian Ellis spotted a seal pup stranded in mud, according to the source report. The report says a herd of 30 cows had gathered around the animal, which Ellis first took to be a dog.
Ellis saw the scene through his telescope and recognized the animal as a baby seal. He called Skegness Nature Reserve for help. Rescuers went to the site and pulled the pup out. The report says the pup was five days old.
The rescuers took the pup to the Seal Hospital. The report says she was placed on antibiotics and a healthy diet.
The report says the seal will be released back into the wild once fully grown, at approximately 60 to 70 pounds. No one is sure how the pup ended up in the puddle. The rescue group's theory, as stated in the report, is that she became stranded when the tide came in and she could not return to the water.
