Don't misunderstand me. I'm not arguing against innovation in veterinary medicine. The field has made genuine strides in diagnostics, pain management, and surgical outcomes. Those advances matter deeply to pet owners watching their animals suffer. But there's a difference between measured progress and the breathless race to adopt every new protocol that lands in the veterinary press.
The pressure to move fast is real. Pet owners increasingly demand cutting-edge options. Social media amplifies success stories while minimizing complications. Veterinary practices face competitive pressure to offer the latest treatments or risk losing clients to clinics that do. It's a treadmill that rewards speed over scrutiny.
Here's the problem: most new treatments haven't been stress-tested across diverse populations of animals with varying genetics, ages, and health profiles. A therapy that works beautifully for a young, otherwise healthy dog might carry hidden risks for a senior with kidney disease. We don't always know until years of real-world application have passed.

Pet owners deserve veterinarians who are thoughtful curators of medical innovation, not early adopters chasing the next trend. They deserve honest conversations about what we know, what we're still learning, and when waiting for more evidence is actually the better call.
